Hi, I'm Mala Chutkan!

And I believe good food is a happy occasion.

It’s been my world for as long as I can remember, from growing up in Jamaica and Florida to my 14-year career as a professional chef. After several years grinding away as a line cook in Miami Beach, I began working for Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts in Miami, FL & St. Louis, MO as a Chef de Partie. Successive roles included Restaurant Chef of The Ritz-Carlton, Clayton, MO, and most recently, Executive Sous Chef for The Breslin Bar and Dining Room and Quality Italian in New York under the helm of 2 Michelin-starred chefs. I decided to leave the industry in 2021 to start my “Events by Chef Mala” catering company. I was ready to trade the constraints of restaurant kitchens for the freedom and joy of working with people just like you. I also wanted more meaning in my work, which I have found through making food I believe in for occasions that matter.

 

More than anything, I want to make you happy with my food. I want you to eat every bite! This means I can adapt to your needs and roll with any preference or dietary restriction to craft something beautiful. And delicious. You’ll see from my sample menus that I draw inspiration from many cultures of the world – from my own Indian heritage and Jamaican roots to the flavors and techniques of the Mediterranean, Italy, Southeast Asia, China, and Mexico. I’m also classically trained in the French tradition of cooking, which informs much of what I do.

 

But no matter the inspiration, one thing is sure: Your food will be crafted with love and care. xx​

Hi, I'm Marjorie!

 

With over two decades in nutrition, ranging from clinical dietetics in hospitals and clinics to empowering roles in public health, my journey has been rich and varied. My work has taken me through pediatric wards, WIC programs, college classrooms, and local news channels, where I've shared valuable nutrition insights.

 

I'm delighted to bring this wealth of experience to my latest venture: a partnership with Chef Mala's meal delivery service in NYC. This collaboration is unique in its approach, offering a personalized touch that sets it apart from typical meal services. At its core is our Lifestyle Review process, where we tailor Chef Mala's commitment to local, sustainable, organic, and fair-trade ingredients to align with your health goals. This ensures that every meal isn't just wholesome and delicious but also a step towards social responsibility and personal wellness.

 

This service extends my lifelong commitment to practical, everyday nutrition. As a former nutrition professor, I've dedicated my career to making healthy eating accessible and straightforward.
